Help make the earth a better place for us all

The Wild Fencing Company

By choosing The Wild Fencing Company, you’re not only investing in beautiful, long-lasting fencing — you’re also helping to sustain local woodlands, boost biodiversity, and provide a safe haven for a wide variety of protected species.

All of our chestnut timber is sourced within five miles of Petersfield, ensuring minimal transport impact and full traceability. We only use A++ grade hardwood, giving our customers the highest quality timber for every project.

Our chestnut is coppiced — an ancient woodland management practice that dates back to the Stone Age. Every 3–15 years, depending on the size required, the chestnut is carefully harvested from the original stool (stump). Once cut, the stool naturally regenerates, sending up fresh shoots and beginning the cycle again. This process keeps the trees in a juvenile state, allowing them to live for many decades — sometimes even centuries — when well managed.

Coppicing also has enormous benefits for wildlife. By opening up the woodland canopy in a cycle of rotation, sunlight floods the forest floor, encouraging the growth of wildflowers and grasses. These plants attract pollinators and insects of every kind, which in turn support bats, birds, and a rich network of other woodland species.

At The Wild Fencing Company, we take pride in sourcing only the very best timber and always aim to deliver a truly five-star service. While we work with a range of different hardwoods, our passion lies in traditional chestnut fencing and oak — timeless, durable, and full of character.
